La Jolie MLN gives back…
Our Mission: It is important to La Jolie MLN to give back to the community, to women who don’t have the same opportunity as others. And, for that reason, we continue to participate in several giving back programs throughout the community and throughout each year.
This prom season 2025, La Jolie MLN is proud to embrace the spirit of generosity by giving back to our wonderful community. We believe that every young person deserves to feel special and confident during this memorable time.
We are thrilled to announce our donations of over 25 brand new dresses to We Pop Up Elmhurst, as well as 11 new dresses to Dress Up District 203 Naperville. These contributions are a testament to our commitment to supporting local initiatives and helping students shine on their big night.
At La Jolie MLN, we understand the importance of community support and the impact it can have on individuals and families. Together, let's continue to uplift and empower the next generation. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us! 💖✨

As a little girl, I would be asked what I want to be when I grow up. I would confidently reply, I want to be a clothing designer and a respected leader. Fast forward 30 years, after working in the corporate world, traveling, getting married and having children, the aspirations of my youth inspire me today. I want to create clothes that make women feel both feminine and powerful, beautiful and strong, sophisticated and elevated. It takes a moment to make a first impression. Dressing well sets the tone, so one can own that moment.
I launched La Jolie MLN to give women a place to do what they love most — find a style that expresses your individual feminine power, whether in the workplace or in everyday life. Hand-picked fashion items that will help you mix and match for just the right statement and for any occasion.
We’ll share stories from the front. You’ll get to hear from women in top positions throughout corporate America, entrepreneurs who launched start-ups and those sitting in power positions in the world of finance, community volunteering and in the home. The MLN in our name are the initials of my three young daughters. It’s my mission to give them the lessons all of you can share with us.
So, let’s share our experiences, strength and stories. I cordially invite you to join a cohort of empowered women.
We want to hear your voice!

At La Jolie MLN Boutique, we believe in the power of community and the importance of raising awareness about critical health issues, including cancer. October is a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, but our commitment to promoting health and wellness extends beyond just one month. This blog post aims to inform, inspire, and empower our community to take action against cancer.
The month is about more than pink ribbons. While some feel inspired, many people living with breast cancer feel like the month overlooks their experience with the disease.

A Legacy of Love
by Lily Shadid
(Age: 15 years)
Crawling up the stairs, I see a man I love dearly, Being eaten away, suffering so severely.
I look for hope in my mother's eyes: they have gone black, I'm left to turn to myself, which stabs me in the back. The sound of his cry; a family of pain.
When I saw it, I stopped. The snowy sludge on which I’d been traversing oozed into the crevices of my boots, solidifying in complement to each rubber fissure; I was incapable of moving. Though caustic winter breezes swarmed my body and leached away my heat, my fixation on the object sent an impulse throughout my flesh that counteracted all shivering, all discomfort.
You don’t have to shoot a gun to be a revolutionary. The U.S. has prospered in part from the contributions made by women throughout history. Let’s take a look at the Revolutionary War that was fought from 1775 to 1783.

Caring for a child with addiction. One woman’s story on finding joy.
By Brooke Lighton
Moyra and I met at a business dinner held last year at La Jolie MLN. It was a well-attended event, and each woman got the chance to give a bit of her background and talk about her business. It’s the way relationships are made, and the mix of talent was impressive.
A year later, our mutual friend Daisy Malek-Shadid, owner of La Jolie MLN, put us in touch so that I could interview Moyra for this story. It turns out we have something in common. I have 40 years of sobriety in AA, and Moyra has been playing a key role in her daughter’s fight with an eating disorder.
First a little background…
What if you could leave a legacy to your children and grandchildren that documents your life?
Not a written story, but a video that captures your growing up, great grandparents your kids never knew, births, funerals, an uncle lost to war, or that moment when your daughter and her dad walked down the aisle.

What you wear can affect your overall mood and confidence, and because of that, it can affect the energy you exude to others…
During the first year of the pandemic I became so accustomed to the sweatpants, t-shirt, and no makeup look while working from home. I’ve never been a morning person, so when my company first announced that we were going to be working remotely, I used every last minute I could to sleep in that I otherwise would have used to pick out my outfit, do my makeup, and commute to work. At first, I loved working in sweatpants, but

Priya’s Story - Told by Traci Smith…
I am Traci Smith. I came across Priya’s story when I began my acquaintance with an organization called the Aruna Project, a charity that helps women in India who are sold into sex slavery. I became involved through my uncle who serves on the board of Aruna. I was so touched by stories like Priya’s, that I began by donating, and then became involved when he asked me to host a 5K race in the Chicago area to raise funds.
Gayle Keller - One thing I learned pretty early…
Most recently, I worked at Microsoft for six years, and my encounter with the corporate ladder over the years led to jobs in marketing, sales and managing large corporate events. One thing I learned pretty early—the corporate ladder is designed for men.
